Introduction:

  1. Since my first experience in teaching in 1985 I have been in building Art departments and developing course outlines and curriculums.
  2. In my first teaching position at The Ruth Prowse School of Art in Cape Town South Africa was responsible for the development of the curriculum for foundation year students, second and third year diploma students in Fine Art and teaching Printmaking specialising in etching.
  3. I then decided to start my own Art center in Somerset West Cape Town where created my own curriculum which I ran for the following 25 years. This included Foundation year programs, 2nd and 3rd year dipoma courses programs as well as History of Art programs.
  4. I began international teaching when in 2016 I was offered an Art teaching post in a private School In a Holiday resort/Development on the Red Sea Called “EL Gouna” (near to Hurghada). Here I was asked to develop the iGCSE art program as well as teach primary and middle School students. During the course of this year Egypt went through a severe financial crisis negatively affecting our salaries and as a result many of the teaching staff left at the end of the year. Some of my colleagues informed me they were going to teach English in China. So I decided to join them and after studying a TEFL course I began to apply for an English (ESL) teaching position. It was shortly after this when I was contacted by a recruiter telling me about the need for Art teachers in International Schools in China and so to my great joy I naturally changed my application for an Art teacher position.
  5. After some delays with documentation and some extensive paperwork I joined an International School in Xuzhou China where I was first introduced to the PYP program. This was only in its infancy and their process was very slow. I was then offered a post at a Internatonal IB School in Nanjing and felt it was a good move for me to go there.
  6. Since starting teaching at Etonhouse in Nanjing I was introduced to both PYP and MYP programs and took part in several IB - PD’s over the course of two years and learning how to work with the Managebac program.
  7. I was then offered an art teacher’s position at another IB School in Hangzhou and so when my contract ended at Etonhouse I decided to accept this and move to Wahaha International in Hangzhou where I am working currently.
  8. Recently I Here I have just completed my first level 2 certificate in a in Art specific MYP - PD.
